Do you offer lay-by?

YES, we do lay-by!

Due to a number of requests, we are now able to offer majority of our stock on lay-by terms.

What is lay-by?

A 'lay-by' is essentially a contract where you pay us for a watch over a period of time rather than upfront. We expect a 40% initial payment and then a 30% installment in 30 days with the final balance of 30% payable in 60 days.

Is lay-by arrangement suitable for me?

This is the question you need to answer for yourself. Many of our customers are watch collectors who like the enjoyment of acquiring a new timepiece every now and then. For them, a lay-by option would be a great way of securing a particular watch without having to rush with the sale of their own 'stock'. Unlike first time buyers, collectors often 'move' their stock and are also quite comfortable with the idea of 'deferred enjoyment'. Of course, while many of them are able to afford a new watch straight away, spreading a payment over 3 installments is sometimes an attractive option.

There are a number of other circumstances where a lay-by arrangement is beneficial to both the buyer and seller.

However there are situations where lay-by may not be the best option. If a buyer wishes to cancel the lay-by contract, or default on payment terms then the seller is entitled to retain an amount called 'termination charge'.

Another side effect of lay-by is that most likely you not entitled to 10% GST refund on watches exported overseas.

What is your termination charge?

10%.

If you cancel a lay-by agreement, we will refund the amount you have paid, except for the termination charge. For example, breaking out of lay-by contract on a $5,000 watch will cost you $500. It is clear that entering in a contract and then breaching it is not wise financial decision. Our ultimate goal is not to waste yours or our time but to retain you as a happy customer and repeat buyer!

Is every watch listed online available for lay-by?

In order to avoid unnecessary administration and stock keeping costs, we have excluded the following stock from lay-by:

  • - subscriber's special
  • - watches under $2,000
  • - newly listed watches (watches listed on our website for less than 4 weeks)

Where do we go from here?

If you would like to lay-by a particular watch, please send us an email (nick@clockmaker.com.au) and we will send you the contract of sale. Have your 40% deposit ready. Lay-by is available to all customers Australia-wide.

For more details about the legal side of a lay-by agreement see the ACCC website.
